Update to MyNetflix: Fixed Login and Search

Filed under: Uncategorized — Anthony Park @ 4:27 pm

Netflix made an update to their website a few days ago, and the login and search features within MyNetflix stopped working. Thanks for the many emails about this problem, bringing it to my attention.

I have updated MyNetflix to resolve these issues (v2.2.1.8), and you can download the new version from my Software page

  1. TYTYTY!

I was worried my favorite plug-in was dead.

A couple of questions about the future of MyNetflix:

    1. Would the Netflix API solve some of the issues regarding website changes breaking MyNetflix? Any plans to update MyNetflix to use the API?

    2. With the upcoming switch to the Silverlight player, will/can MyNetflix be updated to use that player?

    3. Have you or would you consider making MyNetflix open source?

    Thanks again for your efforts!

  2. I also am interested in questions 2 & 3. It seems like MyNetflix’ underlying use of the web browser will make it more likely than other Netflix plugins to handle the transition to Silverlight, but it would be nice to hear confirmation of this.

  3. I just switched to the Silverlight beta for Mac and it seems to have switched my entire account in Netflix. MyNetflix works but doesn’t seem to want to do fullscreen mode properly. Are you planning on updating MyNetflix to do this?

Thank you - love the app!!

  4. You totally ROCK! Thanks for performing the life-saving CPR on MyNetflix. My family and I love the MyNetflix plug-in. Thanks for making Netflix the best part of my Media Center experience!

  5. Thank you for this wonderful plugin! Everytime it stops working I worry that it’s the end…

I imagine the reason Netflix changes their setup so much is to deter such plugins from cutting into their set-top box’s business. User setups with practically unlimited customizations like Media Center must be the bane of their- and other’s like Tivo- existence. Anything they cannot make money on must be evil.

I love my box. TV, DVR, DVD and Bluray, webtv, home music, video and picture hub, Netflix movie player, and even XBOX 360 functionallity (I got a 360 controller and all of my favorite games play just like a console with VMC!). I couldn’t imagine having all the boxes on my stand needed for that kind of functionality. HTPCs are definately amazing…

Thanks again to you, and everyone else who has the technical know-how to work on this kind of software. Even if this were commercial software, I’d buy a copy!

  6. Is there any reason why you can’t put the Silverlight player into full screen when using this plug-in?
